Our Story
In 1995, Dr. John Fountain realized that there was a need for after-hours veterinary care for the families in the area. He met with a few other veterinarians and came up with the idea for a hospital that would handle emergency veterinary care on nights, weekends and holidays when the clinics were closed. Dr. Fountain, Dr. Philip Blumer and Dr. Jeff Waits came up with a plan to open a clinic in Niceville, Florida because it was central to the veterinary clinics open at the time. After recruiting several of the other veterinarians to join the organization, Emergency Veterinary Clinic - Okaloosa Walton, Inc. was created.
On September 25, 1995, Emergency Veterinary Clinic - Okaloosa Walton, Inc opened its doors for the first time. Unfortunately, Hurricane Opal hit a week later, causing damage to the building that required closing for a few weeks to repair. We opened again a month later and have been serving the community ever since.
As the population on the Emerald Coast continued to increase, EVC grew as well and decided to open a second location in Destin Florida to help better serve the southern parts of the counties. On June 3, 2019, Emergency Veterinary Clinic Destin opened its doors and began serving the community. As the need continued to grow, the Niceville location began staying 24 hours/day and Destin has continued to serve the coastal communities from Panama City to Pensacola
